MELCHETT MERE

Posted by
Ken (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 27 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Legend has it that this lake was formed in fairly recent times by a massive underground collapse of some kind. One day park land – the next a lake! This has happened elsewhere due to mining activities and natural subsidence. The collapse which formed the lake probably related to water eroding the underlying Cheshire salt deposits over thousands of years.

It's all so interesting. Silly question... but does that mean the lake might be a bit salty? Or am I way off the mark. Excellent composition, Ken frame and all.
